Researching Libraries

Task: Observe presence and delivery of information. Create an online journal that compares, contrasts, and reflect.

Library 1

Public Library- Charles J. Fendig Public Library http://www.hcplc.org/hcplc/locations/fen/

The mission statement of the library is as follows “The Cooperative promotes lifelong learning, an informed citizenry, individual intellectual freedom, enhanced quality of life, and broadened horizons for all residents of Hillsborough County through a network of free libraries with open access, a community focus, welcoming environments, a broad range of relevant materials in a variety of formats, and highly qualified, customer-focused employees.” Upon observing the branch, I noted that a majority of the patrons were mostly utilizing the computer terminals. There were around 12 public access computers, and a majority of the patrons were adults. When talking to the librarian on duty, he said that the typical clientle of the library is adult community members and some parents and young children. Fendig library employees around six full time librarians, with a part-time staff, and several volunteers. The branch does not have a website, but shares the main Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative site with other branches. Users can access the systems holdings through http://www.hcplc.org/, the can also renew materials, check on account information, place holds, and chat with a librarian. The library also holds classes for adults, teens, children, and families which reflects the mission by promoting lifelong learning.
